Portable Barcol Hardness Tester for Aluminum and Copper Alloys
Portable Barcol Hardness Tester for Aluminum and Copper Alloys
Feature: Portability and Convenience: The Barcol hardness tester is a handy tool designed to measure the hardness of various materials such as aluminum, aluminum alloys, copper, brass, plastics, and fiberglass. This instrument is versatile and can be used on both fabricated parts and raw stock.
Ease of Use: This tester is user-friendly and requires no prior experience. It can be operated in any position and in any space that accommodates the operator’s hand. The hardness reading is instantly displayed on the dial, which is divided into one hundred graduations. There’s no need for preloading or separate measurements.
Lightweight: Weighing only 0.55 kg, the hardness tester is easy to carry around. It comes with a carrying case, an adjusting wrench, and two spare indenter points weighing 2kg.
Applications: The 934-1 model is ideal for testing soft metals like aluminum and its alloys, brass, copper, and some of the harder plastics and fiberglass. It has an approximate range of 25 to 150 Brinell (10 mm ball 500 kg load). This unit complies with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Standard D-2583.
Operating Information:
1. The hardness tester is most effective when used on homogeneous materials. Materials with granular, fibrous, or coarse structures may produce varied hardness readings due to the small diameter of the indenter point.
2. For accurate readings, the material should be at least 1/32″ thick and large enough to maintain a minimum distance of 1/8″ in any direction from the indenter point to the edge of the specimen. The testing area should be smooth and free from mechanical damage.
3. To use, simply apply light pressure against the instrument to drive the spring-loaded indenter point into the material. The indenter point must be perpendicular to the surface being tested.
4. On very soft metals, the highest reading should be used since cold flow allows the spring-loaded indenter point to continue penetration.
Specifications: The pressure needle has a 26-degree truncation conical end face with a diameter of 0.157 mm. The range is 0-100 HBa, with an effective measurement range equivalent to 25-135 HBW. The resolution is 0.5HBa.
Indicative Error: 81-88HBa±1HBa
42-48HBa±2HBa
